Abstract
Linking university and enterprise has become an issue of growing scientific interest. Within the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development and with reference to the UN Millennium Development Goals, the PUEDES program was designed to contribute to the university's relevance in Central America. Since the history of many public Central-American universities is determined by bloodstained tensions toward the private sector, PUEDES is seen as a far-reaching initiative to engage in trust building, and in designing new forms of constructive interactions where both sides strengthen their commitment to sustainable development.
The core issue of the PUEDES pilot projects is not knowledge transfer from university to economy, but interface of university and society as an untapped source of generating valid knowledge to strengthen the emergence of sustainable knowledge societies.
