Abstract
A new species of Galzinia (Basidiomycota, Corticiaceae s. str.) with bifurcate basidiospores is described. Galzinia oberwinkleri
was found on the roots of a young orchid in a mountain rain forest in
Ecuador. It is characterized by very tiny resupinate, mucous-gelatinous,
and watery basidiomata with very large basidia and basidiospores that
are bifurcate. A key for corticioid species with bifurcate basidiospores
and illustrations of their microanatomy are presented.
